Laboratory Department

The hospital operates a laboratory service that runs around the clock. Its stock of ultramodern equipment allows the lab to provide reliable, prompt clinical laboratory services to both in and out patients.  The department employs highly qualified laboratory technologists and assistants. However, your doctor is best placed to answer your questions about test requests and results.

Laboratory testing is an important part of modern medicine as it provides vital information to complement your doctor’s clinical examination. Lab tests are ordered to help provide information to assist in making a diagnosis, confirm a diagnosis, monitor treatment or screen for health problems.

To these important ends, the lab at Edge Medical Center is committed to leadership in pathology and diagnostic practice by maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and adhering to a stringent code of ethical medical practice and technical excellence. Rigorous quality checking systems are in place in our laboratory to optimize accuracy and minimize human error. Our quality checking system also ensures reproducibility of our results.

The lab maintains strict confidentiality with regard to patient records and all information pertaining to patients as well as other professionals. Access to test results is limited to the patient and those providers directly involved in the patient’s healthcare.  Most test results are sent back to the requesting doctor via phone, fax, email or in person. No appointment is required for laborattory services. Most specimens can be collected at any time of the day, although some tests must be done at a paricular time of day e.g. fasting tests are preferably collected in the morning before breakfast.
